The bazaar watchman noticed something suspicious and informed police at approximately 5:15 AM. By that time the suspects were long gone. CCTV footage installed outside the shop clearly captured the suspects arriving with their tools and later leaving with the safe. Police also began collecting footage from Safe City cameras in the surrounding area to track the escape route.
The scale of this robbery shocked the entire city. Initial estimates from authorities suggested the stolen safe contained gold jewellery, silver pieces and cash worth approximately Rs 200 million. Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar personally took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the DIG South. The case was registered at Preedy Police Station under SHO Ayub Mirani.
Within days police tracked down and arrested two close associates of the main suspect from Jhang in Punjab. A significant quantity of stolen gold and silver was recovered from their possession.
